Comparison
Southlark vs Wix: custom landing page or DIY builder?
Hiring Southlark Studio for a fixed-price landing page vs building it yourself on Wix: time, design, cost, ownership and when each one wins.
Wix and Southlark Studio both end with a page on the internet, but they are different kinds of product. Wix is a website builder: you choose a template, edit it in a drag-and-drop editor and publish it yourself. Southlark is a studio: you fill in a brief, and we design, write and build a single landing page for your business at a fixed price.
So the real question is not “which is better” but “do you want a tool or a finished page?” This comparison is meant to help you answer that honestly, including the cases where Wix is the smarter choice.
The short answer
- Choose Wix if you enjoy building things yourself, want to change your site whenever you like without asking anyone, need many pages or features beyond a landing page, or need to spend as little as possible today.
- Choose Southlark if you want one strong page that explains your business and gets people to contact you, would rather not spend your evenings in an editor, and want to know the full price before you start.
What each one actually is
Wix: a do-it-yourself website builder
Wix is a hosted platform. You sign up, pick a template, and customize it in a visual editor: move blocks, swap photos, write your own text, then publish. The platform runs the hosting for you.
You can start on a free plan. To use your own domain name and remove Wix branding you need a paid plan; in Wix’s own words, “With a Premium plan you can connect your own domain, remove Wix branding from your site, and more.” Paid plans are a recurring subscription, billed for as long as the site stays live.
Southlark: a studio that builds one landing page for you
Southlark builds landing pages and nothing else. You describe your business in a short form (no call needed). We study your field, your positioning and your competitors, then show you three design directions. You pick one, we build it, write the copy and refine it through revision rounds. The page goes live 7 days after your brief is complete.
There are three plans, each a one-time price: Nest at $250, Wing at $450 and Lark from $600. Wing and Lark also handle the domain, SSL, Google Search Console and analytics for you. A Care plan for hosting and small monthly changes is optional.

Where Wix is the better choice
We would rather you pick the right tool than pick us for the wrong reasons. Wix makes more sense when:
- Budget is close to zero right now. You can start free and only pay once you need premium features. A studio cannot match that on day one.
- You want full control, every day. If you like changing a headline at 11pm or testing a new photo every week, an editor you run yourself is hard to beat.
- You need more than a landing page. If your plan includes many pages, a large catalog, an online store or a members area, you need a website platform or a full website project. We do not build those.
- You enjoy the process. Some people like designing their own site. If that is you, a builder is a good fit and a cheaper one.
Where Southlark is the better choice
- Your time is worth more than the fee. Learning an editor, choosing a template, writing every section and setting up the domain usually takes far longer than expected. With us, your part is a form and a few rounds of feedback.
- You want a page that fits your business, not a template. Every project starts with a look at your competitors and your positioning, and you choose from three different directions. The result does not look like a hundred other sites built from the same theme.
- Writing is the hard part. Most people stall on the words, not the layout. Copywriting is included in every plan: send finished text or just your ideas.
- You want to know the full price upfront. The plan price is fixed and public. Pay 50% to start and 50% before the page goes live.
- You want the technical setup handled. On Wing and Lark we connect your domain, set up SSL, submit the page to Google Search Console and add analytics.
- You need more than a static page. Lark adds automations such as online scheduling, automated reports and scheduled social posts.
One-time price vs subscription
This is the difference people most often underestimate, so it is worth doing the math for your own case.
With Southlark, you pay the plan price once. If you want us to keep the page hosted, monitored and updated, the Care plan adds $39 a month. Without it, there is no monthly fee.
With Wix, you can start for free, then pay the subscription for your premium plan every billing period for as long as the site is live, plus any paid apps you add along the way.
Neither model is better in the abstract. A subscription spreads the cost and includes the platform’s hosting and tools; a fixed price costs more upfront but stops. Before you decide, add up the years you expect to keep the page on both sides, using the current prices on each provider’s site.
Ownership and moving later
With a hosted builder, your site lives on that platform. Wix’s help center is direct about it: “Since Wix is a SaaS solution, your site must run on Wix’s servers.” You can connect a domain you bought elsewhere, but the site itself cannot be exported to another host. If you leave, you rebuild.
With Southlark, the page belongs to you after the final payment, and so do the domain and the hosting account: they are set up in your name and we hand over every login. It is a standard, fast static site that is not locked to a builder. On the Care plan we keep access to look after it; without it, you hold the keys yourself.
Which should you pick?
Ask yourself three questions:
- Do you want to build it, or have it built? If you want to build it, use Wix. If you want it done, keep reading.
- Do you need one page or a whole website? A single page that explains what you do and collects inquiries is what we make. A store, a blog-heavy site or dozens of pages needs a website platform or agency.
- Is your constraint money or time? If it is money, start free on a builder and upgrade later. If it is time, a fixed-price page that is live in a week often costs less once you count your own hours.
If you are still not sure whether a single page is enough for your business, read our comparison of a landing page vs a full website.
